May 25 – June 24, 2007 | The Harlem School of the Arts Theatre

The Classical Theatre of Harlem's 2006/2007 season concluded with an original adaptation of Sophocles’s Electra.  As with previous CTH adaptations of the Greek classics (Trojan Women and Medea), Electra was a visceral and harrowing meditation on the costs of war that combined elements of Kabuki theatre, Afro-Caribbean dance and ritual sacrifice.

"The Classical Theatre of Harlem has been consistently -- and imaginatively -- re-imagining the classics ... this whirlwind production is another yet outstanding adaptation of Greek theater and should be another reason for serious theatergoers to head uptown" - Theatremania.com

"another arresting and powerhouse production by Classical Theatre of Harlem" - CurtainUp.com

"Electra feels utterly contemporary ... like a fresh indictment of the way foreign wars destroy the people left at home." - Variety

“intense … raw … powerful” - NYTheatre.com

“intense throughout” - Time Out NY
