Burnt-out social worker Anne Simpson wants to retire on a high note, when a gifted nine-year-old, Chee-Chee, from the last “projects” in Anne’s gentrified Harlem neighborhood, collides into her life and forces her to confront the shadows of her past. Much to his mother Latonya’s chagrin, Chee-Chee and Anne develop an unconventional friendship, leading to an explosive encounter that threatens Chee-Chee’s future. This compelling new play asks us to confront the class and cultural divides in New York’s most prominent black community.  Click here for more info!

FEATURED ACTOR
Earle Hyman

Earle HymanEarle Hyman is probably best-known to the general public for his Emmy-nominated performance as “Russell Huxtable,” the father of Bill Cosby’s character on The Cosby Show. But this veteran of television and film has one of the most extensive and varied theatre careers of any actor. He made his Broadway stage debut at 17 in 1943 in Run, Little Chillun, and later joined the American Negro Theatre. On Broadway he has played “Vladimir” in Herbert Berghof’s all-black production of Beckett’s Waiting for Godot, “Solness” in Tony Randall’s National Actors Theatre production of The Master Builder, and was nominated for a Tony for his role in Alan Schneider’s production of Edward Albee’s The Lady from Dubuque. He played “Gaev” in an all-black production of The Cherry Orchard, and a few seasons back, “Firs” in the CTH production of the play, as well as “Creon” in the CTH production of Medea. He played “Macbeth” in a televised version of the play of the same name, and won a Cable Ace Award for his portrayal of “James Tyrone” in a television adaptation of Long Day’s Journey into Night. Along with numerous film and television roles, Mr. Hyman has been featured on All My Children and The Edge of Night and was one of the voices in the animated feature, Thundercats. Mr. Hyman returns to the Classical Theatre of Harlem this fall as “Ferapont” in Three Sisters.
