Still in development, this play captures the story of the youngest person ever executed in the United States. This powerful new play is based on the true story of 14 years old George J.Stinney, Jr. (executed in South Carolina, 1944).
The Classical Theatre of Harlem and Wendell Pierce coproduced the first reading of the play this past October 17th, 2011, in Juilliard's Morse Recital Hall. Presented to a number of distinguished producers and theatre goers, the play took an important first step towards a full production that is eventually to be produced by the Classical Theatre of Harlem and Wendell Pierce.
Stay tuned for more readings and an eventual, full production of "Breathin' and Hopin'" in the future.

Since its founding in 1999, CTH has presented nearly forty productions that have included works by Anton Chekhov, Samuel Beckett, Euripides, Jean Genet, Langston Hughes, Adrienne Kennedy, William Shakespeare, Derek Walcott and August Wilson among many others.
CTH combines non-traditional casting, original adaptations, music and dance in ways that render works from the classical canon as fresh, innovative, and essentially a new experience of world classics.
It is CTH’s vision to create the next great American theatre company whose value to its community is inherent and essential, a company that is engaged in producing theatre that has the capacity to change lives and truly reflects the diversity of ideas and racial tapestry that is America.
